30 Things my kids should know about me

Describe a typical day in your current life.

My typical day isn’t really anything remarkable. I get up at 6am and make a cup of coffee then settle down at the kitchen table to drink my coffee and read my Bible.

By 6:30am Genghis wakes up and after about 15 minutes of waking up, he gets dressed and goes out to take care of the chickens. Then we have breakfast together.

At 8am school starts. This means fully dressed, at the table with all school books out and ready to go.

For the most part this is pretty easy and I usually sit at the table with my computer, answer emails and start on some blog work.

Around 9 or 9:30, the first two subjects of school are finished and a 15 minute break starts. This is usually when Miss Stalin gets up for the day.

After a short break, school starts back up and Miss Stalin usually eats breakfast while watching an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Sometimes she joins up at the table and colors while school is going on.

At this time I can be found in the kitchen cleaning up after breakfast and getting things pulled out of the freezer for dinner.

Two more subjects of school while I clean the kitchen, and start some laundry. Then I sit down with Miss Stalin and work on her ABC’s, colors, and numbers with her. Since she is only 3 we don’t do anything formal but keep it fun and easy.

Then it is lunch time.

We all sit down together and eat lunch. This gives everyone a little break from school work and any other madness that is going on.

After lunch we finish up school with math. Once math is over Genghis gets another 15 minute break and then he practices guitar for 15 to 20 minutes. Every couple of weeks he gets a new lesson with Daddy in the evening.

After guitar and school is all done the rest of the day is free time. If it is nice outside they both go out and play. They can also watch TV or play on the iPad, Playstation, or Wii. During the week we have a 2 hour limit for all electronics and Genghis is really good about setting timers and managing his time with very little input from me.

While the kids are enjoying free time I finish up laundry, pick up as needed and clean a room. The room that gets cleaned varies depending on the day of the week.

4:30 and Miss Stalin goes into the bathtub while I start on dinner.

My goal is to eat by 5:30 every night and I most nights I make that.

After dinner I clean up the kitchen just a little while also helping Miss Stalin brush her teeth and get her pj’s on.

7pm is bed time for Miss Stalin and I read to her and rock her. At 3 years old she still wants to be rocked to sleep every night and most nights she falls asleep while I am rocking her.

7:30, Genghis goes to shower and then gets ready for bed. While he is showering, I finish cleaning the kitchen after dinner.

8pm, Genghis goes to bed. We read one chapter out of the Bible together and talk about what we read. Prayers are said and then he is allowed to read in bed for one hour before lights out.

I then get the coffee pot set up and ready for the next day and make lunch for hubby to take to work with him.

One show in the evening with my husband and then he goes to bed.

10pm, everyone is in bed and the house is quiet. This is really when I am able to answer emails, and get any blog posts done.

And hopefully by 11pm I am in bed for the night and ready to get a little sleep before we do it all over again.

On that note, good night!
