Part 15 in the series 30 Things My Kids Should Know About Me.
It seems like forever ago. I was working at McDonald’s and going to college full time. One day they hired the new boy. The one with the dark eyes and the incredible smile. Oh that smile.
I used to randomly call him different names just to see him smile.
But don’t let all that sweet talk about his smile fool you. I had ZERO interest in dating him. I had a mad crush on someone else.
But things have a funny way of working out. Fast forward a few months, he asked me out a couple of times, I said no. I invited him to a wedding, he said yes. Talk about mixed signals from me. But I still had no interest in him.
Eventually he enlisted in the Air Force and moved away. But he wrote. And for some reason I was the only one who wrote him back.
After months of writing through basic training and tech school, we started talking on the phone. And we kept writing. And somehow in the middle of all those letters, I realized I really did love that guy.
Long story short, it took us 10 years from when we met to actually get married. There was a lot of mess in between but once we got married, it has been good. I cannot tell you exactly what it was that made me fall in love with him. One day I realized it was there. Maybe it is all the things I love about him now.
I ended up with the one I was always supposed to be with.
Your Daddy. And that smile. Oh, how I still love that smile.
