Keep Your Pets Heart Healthy with Banfield and ProHeart 6 #Giveaway

Thank you to Banfield for sponsoring this post today. All opinions and experiences are still 100% my own.

We have three dogs. With that comes lots of vet visits, lots of treats, and an insane amount of dog food. But it also includes a great amount of love. Lots of pets, licks, and just fun. When my first born was little we used to say that the dogs were his hairy sisters. They are just as much a part of the family as I am. So taking care of them is just as important as taking care of my children, or even myself.

Last Sunday we took a little drive to our local PetSmart so we could check out the Banfield Pet Hospital. I don’t know that I ever realized that there was an actual vet inside PetSmart, so this was something of a treat. In the end I decided to take our German Shepherd, Masada in. Even though she wasn’t behind on shots, a general check up is always a great idea.

Heartworm disease is one of the most serious and potentially fatal parasites affecting dogs, and they can contract it from just one bite of an infected mosquito! Fortunately, heartworm prevention is easy, safe and affordable. To properly protect pets from heartworm infection, Banfield Pet Hospital recommends annual heartworm testing and year-round preventive medication for both dogs and cats, which can be administered during a routine office visit. Banfield believes in preventive veterinary care as the best way to improve the quality and longevity of a pet’s life by reducing the risk of developing serious, costly, and sometimes fatal diseases, such as heartworm disease.

We were offered a one year package of free preventive veterinary care through Banfield’s Optimum Wellness Plan, including a year’s worth of ProHeart® 6 heartworm preventive option for your dog.

Banfield Pet Hospital

The great thing about the Optimum Wellness Plan is that it is so affordable. For example, for Masada, I would pay a fee of $24.95 per month. That one monthly payment includes twice-yearly physical exams, routine recommended vaccinations, diagnostic testing, fecal exams, deworming treatments and unlimited free office visits. You just can’t beat all that is included for the price.

Another great thing about Banfield Pet Hospital being located in PetSmart, they have extended hours versus a traditional vet office and they are open 7 days a week. The weekend is a much more convenient time for us to go in and I love being able take them in when it works best for me.

I really liked the vet. She did a very through exam and took the time to talk to me and answer any questions I had.

Before a pet can start on heartworm preventive, he/she needs to be tested to make sure they are free of adult heartworms -this is done through a quick, simple blood test at your veterinarian’s office. And Banfield is offering a $10 off coupon towards heartworm medicine.

I’m exited about the new heartworm medicine. Gone are the days of remembering to give them a pill once a month. ProHeart 6 is an injectable heartworm preventive that can be prescribed to healthy dogs over the age of 6 months, which delivers six months of protection in a single dose-offering both convenience and peace of mind to pet owners. Just one shot every six months provides the same protection against heartworm as the monthly pills.

masada

Masada left with a clean bill of health and I am left knowing that she is protected against heartworms for the next 6 months.

The fun doesn’t stop there, Banfield will donate $1 per reader comment to Banfield Charitable Trust. Banfield Charitable
Trust is a donor-supported non-profit whose mission it is to preserve the human animal bond by keeping pets with their families who love them. Each year, BCT helps 100,000 struggling families through seven programs ranging from life-saving emergency care to assistance with pet food or other urgent pet care needs.

And it doesn’t end there. Banfield is also offering one free office visit at Banfield Pet Hospital for a dog to receive a free heartworm test and free 6-months of Proheart 6 (for dogs only). Use this simple Rafflecopter form to enter.
