Kelty FC 3.0 Child Carrier: Review

Congrats to Drew who won this giveaway.

It is no secret that we are big camping and outdoors fans around here. There is nothing better than getting outside for a day or a weekend, away from the phone, the TV and the computers. It really forces you to spend quality time together as a family and talk more.

We are also huge Kelty fans here. From their tents, to their backpacks and even lights we have several of their products and have always absolutely loved them. When I found out that Kelty would work with me on a review I was thrilled. I honestly didn’t care what the product was because I just knew that I would love it.

For this review I received the Kelty 3.0 Child Carrier. And just like I expected I was not disappointed.

The FC 3.0 features a fully padded, adjustable cockpit for kids and padded, contoured waistbelt and shoulder straps for parents. A five-point adjustable harness keeps kids up to 50 pounds riding safely while the sliding waistbelt torso adjustment easily fits parents of different sizes. Adjusting torso length at the waistbelt has the added bonus of keeping kids riding low for better balance. The patented auto-deploy kickstand engages as soon as the pack is taken off making loading and unloading simple and worry-free. The FC 3.0 comes with 1150 cubic inches of storage space divided between under the seat and rear compartments. Extras include a sun/rain hood and changing pad.

Now my little lady is still too small to take a ride in this carrier but it was perfect for Genghis. We decided to spend a day hiking at our favorite local state park. Genghis always starts out great, keeping up with no problems. But as the day wears on he gets more and more tired. It used to be that we would have to stop and rest for extended periods or cut the day short. This time we took along the FC 3.0 and when Genghis got tired, he got to ride for awhile.

He loved it! It allowed him to still be able to look around and see everything but it also let him take a break from all the walking. Look how happy he looks!

I cannot think of one thing I love most about this carrier. The automatic kick stand is great as it ensures the carrier will not topple over when you set it down. The adjustable straps mean anyone can wear it and get a perfect fit. This carrier comes with 1150 cubic inches of storage space making sure you have plenty of room for all the little things you need to have with you. And I absolutely love that it comes with a rain fly as well as a changing pad.

Apparently at some point Genghis decided that if he wasn’t walking he didn’t need shoes. Tom wore the FC 3.0 for the day while we were out and he said it was very comfortable. Genghis weighs just over 40 pounds and Tom said while it was not light, it was not at all uncomfortable. I loved that we were able to store a first aid kit, water bottles and lots of diapers for the baby with room to spare.
