My dad loved nothing more than dessert. We used to go out to eat and he would order dessert for an appetizer. Then he would order more at the end of the meal. My mom was always trying to get him to cut back on the sweets. It was a losing battle.
His birthday was November 29th and even though he is no longer here, I wanted to still celebrate his birthday. It started last year with a small cake just for him. It is a great way to have a day that is still about celebrating who he was. It doesn’t focus on the fact that he is no longer with us, but instead forces me to really remember what made him so amazing while he was here.
It lets us tell the kids funny stories about him. To talk about all the wonderful things that made him so special.
So on Saturday after dinner we all sang happy birthday to my Dad. The kids blew out the candle. And we ate cupcakes and ice cream and told stories about him.
Happy Birthday Daddy. I know you had a great birthday this year. And I will carry on this tradition until we meet again.
