Poulan Pro Riding Mower Review

Almost 2 months ago a little beauty from Poulan Pro showed up at our house. It was like Christmas. Christmas for grown ups with a mortgage. But Christmas nonetheless.

Now even though we live in what a friend calls the dirty south, we are having a messed up winter like everyone else. OK, a lot less snow, but it has been brutal cold! And we did get snow twice for a total accumulation of one sixteenth of an inch. But it could have been a lot worse.

All of that to say that the grass isn’t growing. But last weekend it was beautiful. And I had all the windows opened and there were patches of green grass that were getting taller than all the dead stuff so we figured that was as good as time as any to try out this bad boy.

Then it snowed again and killed what little green grass we had. Now we are back to square one. But once it does start growing, we are ready!

The Poulan Pro PB155G42 features:

15.5HP Briggs & Stratton engine
a 42-inch cutting deck
a 6 speed lever driven transmission
18-inch turning radius
11-inch mid back seat
key start
1.5 gallon gas tank
steel front axle
Turf Saver 15-inch front and 20-inch rear tires

For some more fun facts on the mower and what is involved in set up be sure to check out my first Poulan Pro post.

After using it there are some things that are worth pointing out.

The engine is a single cylinder engine with a lever transmission. That doesn’t mean much of anything to me either, but my husband says for that reason it drives a lot like a tractor. Don’t let that scare you though. A gear or lever driven transmission tends to be durable and trouble-free, but doesn’t offer any speed control between the pre-set speeds. You cannot shift gears while moving. You select a speed and then you go whatever speed you selected. If you want to change speeds, you have to stop and shift gears.

The one thing that really surprised us both with this mower is that it really is powerful. We have a lot of hills at the house and this mower has a lot of get up and go and made it up the hills with no hesitation or problems.

One of my favorite things about the mower is the fact that it mows in reverse. That may not sound like a big deal but it really is a great feature that is almost unheard of on the smaller lawn mowers.

At the end of the day this is a powerful little mower that will get the job done!
